United States : CHOP names chief of orthopedic surgery.

The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia appoints John M. Flynn, MD, as the institution s new chief of orthopedic surgery.

According to press release from the hospital, on Dec. 1, he assumed his new position.

Since 2005, Flynn previously worked as the assistant chief of orthopedic surgery. He succeeds John Dormans, MD, who headed the division of orthopedic surgery for 18 years.

More than 220 peer-reviewed scientific articles, reviews and textbook chapters have been published by Flynn and have an interest in scoliosis research. He initiated the use of image-guided navigation for pediatric spinal deformities.

According to the release, Flynn lately concluded a term as president of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and has just been elected to a 10-year term as director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
