United States : CBP Helps Fill Shelves at Food Pantry in Brasher Falls, N.Y.

As summer comes to an end, U.S. Customs and Border Protection employees finished their campaign of collecting food for the Feds Feed Families campaign. This year CBP employees at the Massena port of entry donated food items and cash with a final collection totaling 2,154 pounds of non-perishable food items. The employees collectively decide who will be the recipient of the food items and this year the St. Patrick-St. Lawrence Food Pantry was chosen, said CBPO Lesley Shutts. We are like a big family that has an opportunity to help others. This year we voted and chose the Brasher Falls area.

On September 20, CBP employees loaded up two trucks and delivered the food to the pantry. The officers sense of community goes far beyond protect and serve, said Port Director Robert Dwyer. Their generosity is inspiring and their commitment to the community is unwavering.

Feds Feed Families was created to help food banks and pantries stay stocked during summer months when they traditionally see a decrease in donations and an increase in need. Through the amazing generosity of federal employees, the food drive has collected nearly 70 million pounds of food for those in need. Last year alone, more than 12.5 million pounds were donated and provided to food banks and pantries. Even as the economy grows stronger, there are still too many people struggling to put food on the table.
