United States : American taxpayers do play a role in funding colonies.

The issue of Israeli colony construction in the occupied Palestinian territories is of central importance to a comprehensive Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement. Various American administrations have in the past condemned the Israeli colonies as illegal and representing obstacles to peace, but were not prepared to pressure Israel to stop its colonist activities.

The Obama administration backed its commitment to achieving a peaceful settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a two-pronged approach: more vigorously reaffirming traditional US position that the colonies are illegal and represent obstacles to peace, coupled with public demands that the Israeli government stop all colonist activities.

In a speech before the UN General Assembly last September US President Barack Obama declared that "America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli colonies."

Following the defiant Israeli government's announcement in March of plans to build more colonies while US Vice-President Joseph Bidden was visiting Israel, the Obama administration reacted angrily: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "to make clear the United States considered the announcement a deeply negative signal about Israel's approach to the bilateral relationship."

Obama pointedly declared that "stopping colonies and making sure that there is a viable Palestinian state" will in the long run serve both Israeli and American interests.the public records in the US and Israel and found that over the last decade, at least 40 American groups gave $200 million (Dh734 million) in tax-deductible donations "to help Jews establish permanence in the Israeli-occupied territories effectively obstructing the creation of a Palestinian state "

An investigation by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz entitled How does the US help fund pro-settler colonist IDF troops?' reported that an organisation named Task Force to Save the Nation and the Land has offered 1,000 Israeli New Shekels for every day an Israeli soldier spends in prison for disobeying orders to evacuate colonists.

The report states that the group relied on official Israeli data, Civil Administration maps, and documents produced by Brigadier General Baruch Spiegel to show that a half million Israelis "living over the Green Line: more than 300,000 in 121 colonies and about (100) outposts, which control 42 per cent of....the West Bank, and the rest in (12) neighbourhoods" in Occupied Jerusalem Municipality annexed land.
