United States : A Bug s Light! Brings Electrical Safety Lessons to Thousands of Students in SCE Service Area.
Sparky the Wonder Bug will entertain thousands of elementary school students across Southern California Edison s (SCE) service territory beginning this week, teaching youngsters about electrical safety through a live theatre production of A Bug s Light!
The superhero insect, star of the interactive safety learning production staged by The National Theatre for Children (NTC), actively engages students in learning what they and their families can do to stay safe around electricity. Youngsters from more than 30 elementary schools are scheduled to see the live performance, which runs through Oct. 24 in Visalia, Palmdale, Downey, South Gate, Oxnard, Corona, Moreno Valley, Garden Grove, Ventura, Santa Ana, Inglewood, Baldwin Park, Long Beach, Pomona, Compton, Redlands, Rialto, Moreno Valley and other cities.
SCE is making the production available to schools as part of its public safety outreach efforts. Two sperformances are scheduled Oct. 2 at Liberty Boulevard Elementary School in South Gate.
A Bug s Light! is a terrific opportunity to educate children about the wonders and hazards of electricity in a fun and entertaining way, said Don Neal, SCE s director of Corporate Environmental, Health and Safety. This program is an important element of SCE s overall efforts to promote public safety around power lines.
The production features a combination of interactive learning techniques, a live assembly performance using professional actors, a classroom curriculum, homework assignments and activity books in English and Spanish that students can take home and share with their families.
Children learn important safety lessons, including how electricity is made and used, how to identify dangerous situations both inside and outside the home and ways to stay safe around electricity, including when around downed power lines.
