United Kingdom : Soapbox derby helps raise funds for local childrens hospice.

The event, held at Clifton Park Rotherham, saw over 30 teams race their self-built soapbox carts across a 450m obstacle course.

This is the first time Bluebell Wood has hosted such an event, which was attended by over 3,500 spectators.

VolkerRails soapbox, designed to mimic one of the companies Matisa Tampers, came sixth on the day; with a finishing time of 48 seconds.

VolkerRails HSQE director, Stuart Webster-Spriggs, said: We are always happy to support Bluebell Wood and events like this provide us with an opportunity to not only raise money for this great cause, but also have fun doing something new. We look forward to taking part again next year.

Jo Berry, event fundraiser said: A huge thanks goes to everyone for putting in such an enormous effort with the design of their carts and costumes; you all looked fantastic. The day went amazingly and we were able to raise over 10,000.
