United Kingdom : Queen s Baton Relay Route announced for Argyll and Bute.
On Sunday 13 July, the Relay will set off from Appin and will travel to Oban, Lochgilphead, Inverary and will end its journey in Dunoon.
The Relay is being organised by Glasgow 2014 in partnership with Commonwealth Games Scotland and with support locally from the council.
Councillor Robin Currie, Policy Lead for Community and Culture said: "The Relay is set to be a great event. It will be a chance to cheer on local people as they carry the Baton, to join in the excitement of an international celebration, and to showcase Argyll and Bute to a global audience. The council will work with Glasgow 2014 to make it a success for our people and our area. It really is something to look forward to.
The Glasgow 2014 Queen's Baton Relay is the curtain-raiser to the Commonwealth Games and symbolises the coming together of all Commonwealth nations and territories in preparation for the Games.
Over a period of 288 days the baton will visit 70 nations and territories, cover 190,000 kilometres and involve a third of the world's population, making it the world's most engaging relay.
In Scotland around 100 batonbearers will carry the baton each day, in more than 400 villages, towns and cities during its 40 days.
The finish line is the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony, where Her Majesty The Queen will read aloud the message to the Commonwealth which she put in the baton when the relay started.
The route is expected to be: Appin, Benderloch, Dunstaffanage, Oban, Kilmartin, Dunadd, Cairnbn, Lochgilphead, Furnace, Inverary, Strachur, and Dunoon.
Detailed arrangements for the relay such as how it will travel are being made by Glasgow 2014 and the council.
Further information including the times at which the Relay is expected in different locations in Argyll and Bute, and information on local baton bearers, will be announced nearer the time by Glasgow 2014.
