United Kingdom : O2 introduces new TU Go VoIP app.

O2 announced the introduction of a new TU Go Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) app to take on Skype.

With this new app, users will be able to make and receive phone calls, texts and voicemail through a tablet, computer or smartphone. It is being offered on Apple devices, Android devices and PCs powered by Windows 7 operating system, while it is only limited to 'pay monthly' subscribers. The application deducts charges from the user's existing call minutes allowance.

Customers can now take their mobile number wherever they like, even away from their mobile, said O2 UK Marketing and Consumer director ,Sally Cowdry, TU Go lets you take a call on a tablet, pick up text messages on a PC and have conversations in places with Wi-Fi coverage but no mobile signal. We're letting nothing stand between our customers and their number.

The new TU Go incorporating Voice over IP and the O2 mobile network enables users to access their communication history on several devices and can be used through a Wi-Fi or GSM connection.

Cowdry said, For the first time, TU Go will mean customers can use their O2 number across a huge range of different devices. It will extend the O2 phone number and package far beyond just the mobile handset. Just as consumers' demands of what their handset can do - and what they use it for - have changed, so we think their demands of their network will change.
