United Kingdom : Ford praises good work of PCSPs in rural areas.
As part of his tour of the show, the Minister called at the joint stand for the PSNI and Lisburn Policing Community and Safety Partnership (PCSP). The Minister also visited the Organised Crime Taskforce stand and attended the annual Balmoral Breakfast.
David Ford said: The importance of rural communities to local society is very evident by the large numbers in attendance at the Balmoral Show this week. The Community Safety Strategy outlines the importance of partnership working to support efforts to make rural communities safer through preventing and reducing rural crime.
Stakeholders such as DARD, the Ulster Farmers Union, NFU Mutual, PSNI, private sector business organisations and rural groups are involved in developing solutions to make our communities safer. Much good work is being done through initiatives such as Rural Crimestoppers, Farmwatch, trailer marking and crime prevention sessions run locally by PCSPs, however we need to continue to look at ways in which we can make rural communities safer. Only a fortnight ago I met with my executive colleague Minister O Neill to discuss progress and look at what else we can do to strengthen the fight against rural crime.
David Ford added: It has been my pleasure to visit Lisburn PCSP s stand at the Balmoral Show today. It was very useful to discuss with their representatives how they identify and address local issues in the rural community.
The level of partnership between the Lisburn PCSP and the PSNI is very evident at their joint stand at the show and demonstrates how strong partnership works well to benefit the rural community.
