United HealthCare's Health Plans in Five Markets to be Part of AARP Health Care Program

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- United HealthCare Corporation (NYSE: UNH) said today that its proposal to make its managed health plan services available to American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) members in five markets was accepted by AARP. The five markets are Baltimore, Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, St. Louis and New England. United HealthCare now begins open discussions with AARP on this managed care program. If the contract is approved, United HealthCare expects to be able to offer its managed health plan services to AARP members in mid to late 1997.

AARP's decision to make available managed care products is part of the Association's plan to offers its members a wider range of health care options.

United HealthCare also said that its proposed contract with AARP for the delivery of Medicare supplement and hospital indemnity insurance products continues to be negotiated consistent with the company's previous announcement. It is expected to be effective January, 1998.
