United Arab Emirates : 800 Hectares of Agricultural Land Available for Investment in Mozambique: MOFT Successfully Concludes Participation in Maputo International Trade Fair.

The Ministry of Foreign Trade (MOFT) has concluded its participation in the 48th Edition of the Maputo International Trade Fair that took place in the Mozambique capital city of Maputo, where it held talks, leading a delegation that included a number of UAE government institutions and private companies, on strengthening UAE Mozambique commercial ties with a number of Mozambique officials and private sector leaders.

During the visit, the UAE delegation succeeded in strengthening bilateral relations and exploring the creation of new investment and trade alliances and partnerships especially in the African country s most promising sectors, which include agriculture, fisheries, manufacturing and minerals.

The Ministry underlined its commitment to working on developing existing policies and procedures in order to preserve the UAE s standing as Mozambique s foremost commercial partner in the Middle East.

Leading the UAE delegation was Mr. Mohammad Hamdan Al Zoaby, the head of the Trade Promotion Department at the Ministry, who along with the representatives of a number of UAE public entities and companies, such as the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Free Trade Zone Authority and Department of Economic Development of Ras Al Khaimah, as well as a number of large UAE companies such as Al Jaber Group, Emaar Properties, the Dahra Agricultural Company and others, held a series of successful meetings with the heads and representatives of a number of institutions and unions from Mozambique at the fair. These included a meeting with the country s main business associations union that centered on exploring available investment opportunities in Mozambique especially in agriculture, transport and communication and another meeting with officials from the Mozambique Ministry of Trade and Industry that tackled available investment opportunities and the mechanisms of establishing businesses and investments in the country. A third meeting was conducted with Mozambique s most prominent businessmen and company CEOs and others who were interested in setting up joint partnerships and ventures with UAE investors in various sectors such as tourism, contracting, hotels, agriculture, trade, foodstuff and agricultural land development, which Mozambique announced it possesses 800 hectares of that are available and ready for investment.

Business to business (B2B) meetings were also held at the fair.

Commenting on the UAE delegation s participation, Al Zoaby said that Mozambique is considered an important partner to the UAE within the context of our efforts that are aimed at expanding our strategic partnerships network and our global commercial relations, especially in promising areas that are witnessing a steady increase in growth, such as those in Southern African countries.
