United Airlines' February traffic increases 11.0 percent.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 1996--United Airlines today reported that its total scheduled revenue passenger miles (RPMs) increased 11.0 percent in February vs. the comparable month in 1995.

"We are very pleased with our performance in February," said John Edwardson, president and chief operating officer. "Our system load factor rose more than two points on the strength of solid improvement domestically and across both the Atlantic and Pacific."

The airline's total scheduled RPMs were 8,279,172,000 compared with 7,459,292,000 in the same month of 1995.

For the month, domestic revenue passenger miles totaled 5,145,247,000, an increase of 9.0 percent from 4,720,762,000 accumulated a year ago. Pacific revenue passenger miles totaled 2,068,153,000, an increase of 14.8 percent from 1,800,834,000 a year ago. Atlantic revenue passenger miles totaled 664,602,000, an increase of 23.4 percent from 538,492,000 a year ago. Latin American revenue passenger miles totaled 401,170,000, an increase of 0.5 percent from 399,204,000.

Total scheduled available seat miles (ASMs) were 12,481,549,000, up 7.4 percent from 11,622,893,000 a year ago. Domestic ASMs were 7,859,442,000, an increase of 6.5 percent from 7,382,029,000 a year ago. Pacific ASMs totaled 2,931,839,000, up 7.8 percent from 2,719,346,000 a year ago. Atlantic ASMs totaled 1,019,337,000, up 12.1 percent from 909,247,000. Latin American ASMs totaled 670,931,000, an increase of 9.6 percent from 612,271,000 a year ago.

The airline flew 5,959,000 passengers in scheduled service in the month, an increase of 11.0 percent from 5,369,000 flown a year earlier.

Total cargo ton miles for February were 178,361,000, up 8.4 percent from 164,542,000 a year ago.

Total RPMs including charter flights were 8,294,488,000, up 10.8 percent from 7,487,476,000 a year ago.

JANUARY THROUGH FEBRUARY TRAFFIC

For the year to date total scheduled RPMs increased 5.6 percent to 16,790,350,000 from 15,903,333,000 in 1995.

Total scheduled ASMs were up 3.5 percent to 25,287,065,000 from 24,421,906,000 for the same period in 1995.

Passenger load factor was 66.4 percent, up 1.3 points from the 65.1 percent load factor in 1995.

Total cargo ton miles were 339,200,000 for the period, an increase of 4.7 percent from 324,093,000 last year.

Total RPMs including charter for the year to date were 16,819,970,000, an increase of 5.4 percent from 15,953,437,000 in 1995.
