Union Pacific Railroad recently announced it has leased a newer version of the hybrid electric locomotive known as "Green Goat."

According to the company, the Green Goat hybrid train, which uses batteries to power its electric traction motors, is designed for light-to-medium switching and has an expected fuel savings of up to 80 percent.

"Union Pacific has been a leader in pursuing new technology to reduce diesel air emissions," said Union Pacific senior assistant vice president of safety, environment and security Bob Grimaila.
