Uni staff wearing stab vests.
Huddersfield University says its external weekend and night-time contractors have chosen to wear stab vests.
But the university's own staff do not as there has never been a reason for them to do so. It comes as a survey revealed that 40% of universities in Yorkshire now employ security guards who wear stab vests while on duty.
A spokesman for Huddersfield University said their own campus security staff did not wear stab vests, adding: "There is no reason to and we've never had reason for staff to wear stab vests.
"We employ a company which provides out of hours and weekend security for us and they may require their staff to wear stab vests, but it's not our decision."
The company, Bradford-based Kings Security Systems, do require their staff to wear stab vests while they work on a range of contracts in the area, including that at the Huddersfield campus.
Security staff at other universities in the region also employ staff who wear stab vests, although 60% of universities say they don't.
