72,700 saplings were planted in municipal gardens at different locations, while about 993,800sqm of green areas were mowed at a number of places. The Services Affairs Department at Umm Salal Municipality planted 543 trees of different types at key locations within the municipality in 2019 as part of its distinguished efforts last year, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) said in a statement. In addition, 72,700 saplings were planted in municipal gardens at different locations, while about 993,800sqm of green areas were mowed at a number of places. The department also addressed 587 requests to prune trees and spray plants with insecticides, besides transporting over 14.7mn gallons of freshwater to irrigate plants across the municipality last year, the MME statement noted, adding that five water coolers were installed at Barzan Olympic Park. Also, throughout 2019, the department conducted various awareness and entertainment activities on the importance of plants for the environment.
