UltraDNS Selected To Manage Oracle's Internet Domains; Oracle Supports its Global Business Activities with Bulletproof Managed DNS Service.

Business Editors & High-Tech Writers

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 15, 2001

UltraDNS(TM) Corporation, the leading Directory Infrastructure Services Provider (DISP), today announced that Oracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, has selected UltraDNS to host several mission-critical Internet domains in support of the company's global business activities.

The announcement represents an expansion of the companies' existing relationship. Last year, UltraDNS chose to deploy the Oracle Database engine to power its Managed DNS Service -- the industry's first commercial implementation of the Internet Domain Name System.

The UltraDNS Managed DNS Service(TM) chosen by Oracle guarantees mission-critical, 100 percent directory services reliability and high performance -- unlike most systems based on the 13-year-old public domain BIND system. Using Oracle(R) relational database technology and its Directory Services Platform, UltraDNS has built the first global, fail-safe server network designed to meet demands for 100 percent, SLA-guaranteed reliability, scalability, security, and high performance data management in today's Internet and telecom environment -- supporting millions of users managing billions of records.

"UltraDNS is pleased that one of the largest technical organizations in the world has selected UltraDNS managed directory services to support its global business goals," said Michael Guglielmi, Vice President of Sales and Business Development of UltraDNS. "By choosing our Managed DNS Service that was developed as a next-generation commercial infrastructure solution, Oracle has made a strong commitment to delivering 100 percent reliability to its customers the world over."

DNS is the world's largest and most complex global network directory system and essential to the operation of the Internet. Today's DNS deployments, however, are based on open source software and 1980s-era technologies. According to some research studies, DNS failure rates as high as 10 percent are commonplace, and can result in more than $100 million in needless costs to e-businesses annually.

"Oracle's worldwide demands require literally millions of online transactions to be accomplished successfully every day and UltraDNS' ability to deploy DNS globally as well as to guarantee 100 percent uptime reliability was critical to our decision," said Charles R. Hoynowski, Global DNS Services Manager, Oracle Corporation. "Quality of service grows in importance as Internet usage increases, and UltraDNS offers a DNS service that simply makes the Internet work better by scaling up as the needs of our worldwide customer base grow."

UltraDNS' solutions enable the company to offer guaranteed directory resolution for mission critical information-exchange applications that leading e-businesses such as Oracle depend on to conduct vital business with partners, suppliers and customers. Oracle's database software supports UltraDNS' mission by providing reliable transaction-layer replication of information throughout the UltraDNS global network. If an UltraDNS customer company adds a new DNS server to its Web hosting operations, or changes its IP address, for example, that change is propagated to the entire Internet within seconds, so that end users will be able to find the information they need quickly and reliably.
