Ultra buys airline IT specialist.

Ultra Electronics - the UK manufacturer of specialist electronics systems for the military and aerospace sectors - has snapped up an airline and airport IT systems business in a cash deal worth pounds 1.5 million.

Ultra, which has a large facility at Rugeley in Staffordshire, yesterday acquired Videcom International, based at Henley on Thames.

Videcom supplies IT products to airline and airport customers, including common user systems that manage seat allocation, passenger boarding, departure control, baggage tracking and aircraft load and balance calculations.

The company's products are used in airports around the world and have achieved particular success in the growing Chinese market.

Significantly, they also have strong synergies with Ultra's Airport Systems business, with which it will be integrated.

Airport Systems is part of Ultra's Information & Power Systems Division.

Douglas Caster, of Ultra, said: 'I am very pleased to have acquired the airline and airport IT systems activity of Videcom International.

'The business is an exceptional fit with our existing Airport Systems operation.'
