Ukraine : The United States handed patrol boats to the Island Island Coast Guards to the Naval Forces of Ukraine.

During a working visit to the United States, President Poroshenko and his wife, Marina Poroshenko, took part in the solemn ceremony of the transfer of two patrol boats to the island's Coast Guard to the Naval Forces of Ukraine. The ceremony took place on the territory of the US Coast Guard Baltimore. Certificates on transfer of equipment in the presence of the President have been signed by Vice-Admiral of the Coast Guard of the USA Michael Macalikister and Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine Igor Voronchenko.

"For me it's a great privilege to be here in Baltimore. In place of centuries-old traditions. In a place where the sea power of the United States is stored. It is an honor to welcome men and women who serve in the US Coast Guard. You carry out the greatest mission - protect the borders of the Motherland ", - said Petro Poroshenko.

"This day is another milestone in the development of a strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States," the Head of State stressed.

The President also emphasized that the United States Government, the President of the United States, has once again demonstrated its firm position regarding the protection of international law, the support of freedom-loving people in their quest for peace, democracy and independence.

"The first two" Island "boats will become another brick in strengthening the naval alliance between the Ukrainian and American peoples," the President emphasized, adding that he would complement this co-worker and US assistance in building the command center of the Ukrainian Navy in Ochakov.

"Today's event clearly shows that the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the United States is lively and productive," he said.

According to the Head of State, this alliance is already deeply rooted in the "Sea Breeze" annual exercises jointly organized by Ukraine and the USA in the Black Sea, which took place 18 times this July with the participation of representatives of the armed forces of 17 countries.

Vice-Admiral of the United States Coast Guard Michael Macalikister noted that Over the past twenty years Coast Guard has provided 520 assets to 75 Excess Defense Articles (EDA) partners. "The program provides mutually beneficial cooperation with all partners. Our international partners can quickly improve maritime safety and security. These transfers help secure a long-term international partnership that provides global maritime security, "he said.

Vice Admiral of the Coast Guard of the United States also stressed: "I am sure that these boats will also serve well in the hands of the Ukrainian Navy. In the hands of skilled seamen, such as US Coast guards and Ukrainian navy, the "Island" boats have proven that they are diverse and efficient units of equipment. Their teams have shown themselves very well in preventing smuggling, responding to emergencies, carrying out defensive operations and saving people in the seas. "

Michael Macalister also said that he was serving as commander of one of these ships at one time: "Coast Guard loves these ships very much."

"It's a bit sad to see how these ships leave our service, but we are proud that they continue to be an important tool for world maritime security. We look forward to the start of the transfer process and to work with our Ukrainian partners in order to deliver these wonderful boats that have served the United States so well, "said Vice Admiral. After the solemn ceremony, the Head of State inspected one of the high-speed boats, which were transferred to Ukraine.
