UTILICORP ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGE AT AQUILA ENERGY

 KANSAS CITY, Mo., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- UtiliCorp United (NYSE: UCU) today announced a change in top management at its Aquila Energy subsidiary.
 Marc L. Petersen, 51, president of Aquila Energy Corporation, will be reassigned to support UtiliCorp's domestic and international business development efforts, effective Jan. 25, 1993. He will continue to report to UtiliCorp Chairman and President Richard C. Green, Jr.
 Charles K. Dempster, formerly president and chief operating officer for Reliance Pipeline Company in Denver, has been named as the new president of Aquila Energy Corporation. Dempster, 50, has 24 years of executive and management experience in the oil and gas industry. His appointment also is effective Jan. 25, 1993.
 Petersen recently has been engaged in negotiations related to a previously announced joint venture in New Zealand between UtiliCorp and the Waikato Electric Authority. In his new assignment, be will be based at UtiliCorp's Kansas City headquarters offices.
 As president of Reliance, Dempster has been responsible for developing a business similar to Aquila Energy. Reliance, a division of NICOR, specializes in natural gas marketing, gas gathering, pipeline operations and oil and gas production and processing. Prior to joining Reliance, Dempster worked for Enron Corporation in management positions related to gas supply and acquisitions. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Houston.
 Petersen has headed Aquila Energy since 1986. Prior to that he was a vice president at UtiliCorp's Peoples Natural Gas division where he had 23 years of service. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Dana College.
 Aquila Energy is one of the nation's largest independent marketers and suppliers of natural gas. Headquartered in Omaha, Neb., Aquila supplies gas to utilities and large volume users in markets throughout most of the United States and in Ontario, Canada. Aquila also owns and operates various natural gas gathering and pipeline systems, natural gas processing facilities and substantial volumes of oil and gas reserves. Based in Kansas City, UtiliCorp provides gas and electric service to more than a million customers in eight states and in British Columbia. The company also is engaged in various non-regulated utility and energy related enterprises.
