USWA MEMBERS RATIFY CONTRACT WITH GULF STATES STEEL

 GADSDEN, Ala., April 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Members of the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) employed by Gulf States Steel have overwhelmingly approved a new three-year contract, it was announced today.
 The vote, counted Saturday, April 17, was 1,072 in favor and 363 opposed among production and maintenance workers, and 40 in favor and 4 opposed among office and technical workers.
 The contract runs from April 1, 1993, to April 1, 1996. Among other things, it provides wage increases of $1.50 an hour, guaranteed employment security, retirement inducement bonuses of up to $19,800, profit-sharing, gain-sharing, gain-sharing bonuses of up to $2,500 and a new trade and craft training program, the union said.
