USWA AND JOSEPH T. RYERSON ANNOUNCE TENTATIVE LABOR AGREEMENT

CHICAGO, Jan. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The chief negotiators for the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) and Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., jointly announced today that a tentative contract settlement has been reached, pending approval by the full union negotiating committee and ratification by the union membership.
The announcement was made by Buddy W. Davis, USWA District 34 director, and William C. Carter, chairman of Ryerson's negotiating committee.
The tentative agreement was concluded during the past week after "informal discussions" were resumed in the middle of December between the chief bargainers. These were the first meetings held by Ryerson and the union since the company's final contract offer was rejected by the union in August 1992.
No details of the tentative agreement will be released until the full negotiating committee is convened to receive the negotiating committee's report. The contract would cover 480 employees at 11 steel service center plants throughout the country.
Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., is a unit of Inland Materials Distribution Group, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Inland Steel Industries, Inc. (NYSE: IAD).
