USW AND ARMCO EMPLOYEES INDEPENDENT FEDERATION TO PICKET KAWASAKI STEEL

The United Steelworkers of America (USW) and the Armco Employees Independent Federation (AEIF) will stage informational picketing at the Kawasaki Steel America Inc. offices, located at 600 Travis Street, Houston, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
The pickets will be carrying Japanese-style banners and will distribute handbills seeking the support of Kawasaki corporate management to rectify strategic errors being made by management of Armco Steel L.P, a joint venture between Kawasaki Steel Corp. of Japan and Armco Inc. (NYSE: AS) of Parsippany, N.J.
These actions are jeopardizing the future of Armco Steel L.P., its employees and their communities. Armco Steel's principal operations are in Ashland, Ky., and Middletown, Ohio.
The treatment being accorded the Armco workers by their American management runs completely contrary to the Japanese culture, a point the pickets will be making.
To highlight the Japanese connection, the pickets will be wearing arm bands -- in the style of Japanese unions during their annual "spring offensive" contract negotiations.
In addition to the photo opportunity, the demonstrators will be available for interviews.
