USE OF COST, SCHEDULE CONTROLS, CONFIRMS STABILITY OF McDONNELL DOUGLAS LONGBOW PROGRAM

MESA, Ariz., April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Co.'s cost and schedule control system for the AH-64D Longbow has clearly demonstrated its effectiveness since it was reviewed and approved by the Department of Defense in July 1992.
"It's performing better than any other program I know of," said Col. Robert Atwell, the U.S. Army's Longbow project manager. "Monthly reports show program variance is consistently within tolerances expected of a high technology weapons system development program."
Use of cost/schedule control system criteria (C/SCSC) ensures continuous and timely reporting of schedule and cost variances on the Longbow Apache program.
"Program variance measurement criteria for schedule and costs is an excellent management tool for all to ensure compliance with contract requirements," said Chuck Vehlow, director of Apache derivatives for McDonnell Douglas Helicopter. "Careful definition of work breakdown structure early in the program and cost account management by C/SCSC-trained managers have contributed significantly to the stability of the development program.
"Our Longbow Apache cost/schedule control system is a very effective management tool," Vehlow said. "Our performance to date clearly demonstrates that effectiveness."
