USAIR SELECTS KNOWLEDGEWARE CASE TOOLS
USAIR SELECTS KNOWLEDGEWARE CASE TOOLS ATLANTA, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- KnowledgeWare, Inc.
(NASDAQ-NMS: KNOW) today announced that USAir (NYSE: U) has selected its Application Development Workbench(R)(ADW)(R) CASE tools for all phases of application development from planning, analysis, prototyping, and design to code generation and system documentation.
USAir will equip more than 300 programmers in its application development organization, and will be one of KnowledgeWare's largest customers. Based in Arlington, Va., USAir is the fifth largest domestic commercial airline carrier in the United States. After evaluating several CASE vendors and completing a successful pilot program using KnowledgeWare's tools, they chose to standardize on the ADW products. The first stage of broader implementation is to roll out a company-wide information strategy. The company's goal is to engineer a standard approach to developing and maintaining quality applications to meet the business challenges facing them today. "With the purchase of KnowledgeWare's tools, USAir is investing in its future," stated Joe Abruzzo, assistant vice president, USAir applications development. "The Application Development Workbench will give us the ability to develop imperative corporate systems faster with improved quality and consistency. We anticipate a 25 to 40 percent improvement in productivity, and the first project utilizing KnowledgeWare's products is supporting these anticipated productivity gains. We are pleased with our working relationship with KnowledgeWare and their support of our needs." James Martin & Co. is assisting USAir with their ADW deployment. Russ Riggen, consultant for James Martin & Co., stated, "USAir has already generated in three months its first strategic system using the ADW products. This new system is pointing the way toward a whole new paradigm for production of quality systems quickly, at a low cost." According to Gary Pinson, manager of planning and control for USAir, "Timely and correct information has become essential to USAir in order to maximize the use of resources and to take advantage of business opportunities in a competitive airline environment. With our traditional 'stand alone' type of applications, it's difficult to quickly support the rapidly changing requirements for information. "KnowledgeWare tools and employees are allowing us to respond to the critical and immediate needs of today, while building an information base that will satisfy USAir's long-term objectives," said Pinson. Donald P. Addington, KnowledgeWare president and chief operating officer, added, "Creating partnerships with companies such as USAir is important to our long-term success. Through these relationships, we gain valuable practical feedback which is incorporated into our products. "Like many of our customers, USAir is making significant investments in KnowledgeWare's products after quantifying the benefits of developing superior business applications with CASE," said Addington. "We are committed to providing USAir with quality tools and services to support them in maintaining their position as a leader in the airline industry." KnowledgeWare develops, markets and supports CASE tools for use by information systems development professionals. KnowledgeWare markets its products from sales and support offices throughout the United States and through international distributors in 32 countries.
