 USAIR REPORTS DECEMBER TRAFFIC
ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir today reported a

gain of 3.7 percent in revenue passenger miles flown in scheduled service during December 1991 compared with December 1990.
Available seat miles flown during December decreased 4.3 percent from the same month of 1990. Passenger boardings were up 1.5 percent from the same month a year earlier. December load factor was 61.2 percent, which compares with 56.5 percent during December 1990. A portion of the peak Thanksgiving holiday traffic fell in December 1991.
For the year 1991, USAir flew 4.0 percent fewer revenue passenger miles than it did in 1990. USAir's available seat miles flown were 2.1 percent below the 1990 level. Passenger boardings were down 7.4 percent from 1990, while passenger load factor was 58.6 percent, which compares with 59.8 percent for 1990.
On May 2, 1991, USAir ended operations at eight west coast cities and reduced flying activities at two of its hubs. The discontinuance of service as a result of the May restructuring will have an unfavorable impact on year-over-year traffic comparisons for the next four months.
