 USAIR PILOTS CONTINUE TO NEGOTIATE
 WASHINGTON, April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Today's announcement by

USAir that it is seeking to be released by the National Mediation Board from its contract talks with pilots was met with surprise and disappointment by union leaders at the airline.
"Talks have recessed for the Easter holiday and have been scheduled to resume next Tuesday. I want to stress that the mediator has not declared an impasse. Progress on the negotiations has been slower than we would like, but this hardly fits the definition of an impasse," said Captain Armen Janzen, chairman of the USAir pilots' master executive council, a unit of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA).
"We are optimistic that we can reach an agreement that addresses the company's needs while at the same time providing a fair return to the pilots," Janzen said.
