ST. LOUIS, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir today rolled out a new branded leisure product -- USAir Vacations -- offering value-added, high-quality, competitively priced vacation packages, starting Oct. 1.
USAir Vacations include round-trip airfare on USAir, two-to-21-night hotel accommodations, rental car with free upgrade from Hertz (the official car company of USAir Vacations) or airport transfers, destination perks and comprehensive service guarantee from USAir Vacations, all for one low price.
"The USAir Vacations product will promote USAir as a leisure travelers' airline, increase revenue, create `brand' loyalty, and provide our customers with vacations superior in value and service," said Rita Cuddihy, USAir vice president-marketing and distribution planning.
"USAir is the number one carrier from the Northeast to/from Florida and intra-Florida, operates more than 5,000 daily USAir, USAir Express and USAir Shuttle departures and has service from more than 270 cities," she emphasized. "USAir Vacations' mission is to become a competitive force in the leisure package industry, a `natural' given our extensive Florida route network."
USAir will begin with packages to Orlando, Florida beaches, Key West, Nassau, family islands of the Bahamas, San Juan, Grand Cayman, St. Thomas, Bermuda, California, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Reno/Lake Tahoe, Frankfurt, London (in conjunction with British Holidays) and Paris. Other destinations will be added in 1994.
USAir is kicking off the program this week at the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) World Congress in St. Louis. USAir Vacations will offer an introductory booking incentive of $25 (per passenger up to four passengers) paid to travel agencies for every USAir Vacations booking between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 1993.
USAir has chosen the Mark Travel Corporation (MTC), parent company of Funway Holidays Funjet, as the tour operator to manage and operate USAir Vacations.
Cuddihy emphasized that while MTC will be the only wholesaler for the branded USAir Vacations product, USAir will continue its current successful relationships with other wholesalers for their packages.
"We're excited about this new business partnership," said Kevin Froemming, vice president and general manager of USAir Vacations. "This program will focus on USAir's widely recognized airline name and on expansion of leisure markets to give customers value-oriented vacations.
"The best parts of a USAir Vacation package are the value-added perks," said Froemming. "There is an automatic Hertz car upgrade, bonus coupons for discounts on attractions, restaurants and tours, and even taxes on hotels and car rentals, where possible. Because USAir is the official carrier of Universal Studios, most Orlando packages will include a one-day pass to Universal Studios Florida."
For example, a USAir Vacations package from New York to Orlando includes round-trip airfare, two nights hotel, a Hertz rental car (with automatic upgrade) and payment of hotel and car taxes. Also included are the free one-day pass to Universal Studios Florida, a free Wet 'n Wild admission, free Church Street Station admission and a USAir Vacations Value book for 2-for-1 admissions and discounts at restaurants and attractions. This USAir Vacations' package price is $299 per person.
The USAir Vacations headquarters, operated by MTC, which includes the reservations center where travel professionals will handle inquiries, bookings and tour processing, will be located in Orlando.
The USAir Vacations reservations center will handle inquiries and book packages during extended business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., EST, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
A special toll-free hotline will be available and staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for customer assistance. In addition, destination services offices will be available at key cites. USAir Vacations will also participate in the United States Tour Operators Association's (USTOA) $1 million consumer protection program.
On Jan. 1, 1994, USAir will expand the USAir Vacations choices to include Atlantic City, Mexico City, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, New Orleans, New York and Washington. On May 1, 1994, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Denver will be added.
