USAIR FORCED TO CANCEL PHILADELPHIA-FRANKFURT PLANS; WILL CONTINUE EXISTING SERVICE FROM PITTSBURGH AND CHARLOTTE

ARLINGTON, Va., April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir today announced that it has been forced to cancel its Philadelphia-Frankfurt service that was to have been started on May 2 because the U.S. and German governments had been unable to agree on the new flights to be operated between the two countries this summer.
USAir said that its existing nonstop service to Frankfurt from Charlotte and Pittsburgh has been approved by the German government and will continue to operate.
Passengers holding reservations on the Philadelphia-Frankfurt service will be re-booked on USAir's Pittsburgh or Charlotte flights, or on flights by other airlines.
USAir had made plans and taken reservations for its Philadelphia- Frankfurt service after having been advised by the U.S. government that the new service satisfied an interim agreement reached by the U.S. and German governments last year. The German government told the U.S. government late last week that it disagreed with the U.S. government's interpretation.
USAir said that it still hopes to be able to obtain authority from the German government to operate additional service to Germany when negotiations between the United States and Germany lead to a new agreement. Negotiations are scheduled to begin next month.
