USAIR EXPRESS TO BEGIN NEW NONSTOP SERVICE FROM PROVIDENCE TO NEW YORK LAGUARDIA AIRPORT

USAIR EXPRESS TO BEGIN NEW NONSTOP SERVICE FROM PROVIDENCE
 TO NEW YORK LAGUARDIA AIRPORT
USAir Express announced several weeks ago that it will begin new nonstop service to New York's LaGuardia Airport from Providence on Saturday, Feb. 1. That service date is now imminent. The text of the original press release follows to explain the new service.
LaGuardia is a "plum" destination for both leisure and business travelers, and is the airport most requested when cities and chambers of commerce come to USAir and ask for new service. Unfortunately, USAir cannot provide new LaGuardia service to all cities who want it because LaGuardia is a very busy airport which is "slot-controlled" to alleviate air and ground congestion. There are only so many take- off and landing slots available each day at LaGuardia.
USAir recently made a commitment to continue to improve its service to/from LaGuardia by purchasing Continental Airlines' LaGuardia slots and a new terminal slated to open in August of this year. Choosing those cities which would receive use of the newly acquired slots was difficult and painstaking. Many cities were considered. Providence was one of those cities.
And the best news is that USAir Express will add five daily flights to and from Providence. Frequency of service is critical to the business traveler's needs, and this number of flights will give Providence-area travelers a wide range of options for service to New York.
Since the first USAir Express flight departs very early on Saturday, there will be no formal press event, given the difficulty of attracting media at that hour. For more information about the new service for interview purposes today, call USAir at 703-418-5100.
The original press release announcing the new Providence route follows:

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Jan. 9 -- USAir Express will inaugurate nonstop service from Providence to New York's LaGuardia Airport starting Feb. 1. USAir Express will also offer new introductory fares of $118 roundtrip for a non-refundable ticket or $118 one-way for a fully refundable ticket.

This new USAir Express service is made possible by USAir's purchase of Continental Airlines' assets at LaGuardia Airport, including 62 jet and 46 commuter take-off and landing slots. The purchase of those assets was approved Jan. 7 by a federal court judge handling the Continental bankruptcy case. Included in the total $61 million agreement is a new, state-of-the-art terminal at LaGuardia, slated for completion in August 1992.
The low introductory fares are available for nonstop travel between Providence and LaGuardia from Feb. 1 to March 15, 1992. All tickets must be purchased by Feb. 15, 1992. The $118 one-way fare is fully refundable and has no restrictions. The $118 roundtrip fare is non-refundable, requires a Saturday night stayover and must be ticketed within 24 hours of making a reservation. USAir's 10 percent discount for senior citizens and students can be applied to these fares, but coupons cannot be used in conjunction with these fares.
The new USAir Express flights will be operated by Allegheny Commuter Airlines, Henson Aviation, Inc., and Pennsylvania Airlines. All are wholly owned subsidiaries of USAir Group, Inc. (NYSE: U) and are among 12 regional airlines that provide USAir Express service throughout the United States, Canada and the Bahamas.
