TO ADD NEW AIRCRAFT TYPE TO FLEET
INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir Express carrier Jetstream International will add a new aircraft type -- the 28- passenger Embraer Brasilia -- to its fleet early in 1992. Seven Embraer aircraft will be leased by Jetstream from Dornier Aviation (North America) Inc. of Sterling, Va.
The first Embraer will be delivered to Jetstream in January 1992; the aircraft deliveries will then continue two per month through April 1992. The Embraer aircraft will be based at USAir's Indianapolis hub airport.
"The Embraer will give USAir Express much-needed increased seat capacity to and from our growing hub operation at Indianapolis," said Keith Houk, president and CEO of Jetstream International of Dayton, Ohio. "The first Embraer will be used to serve our Indianapolis-to- Milwaukee market and we are evaluating which other cities might benefit from use of this larger aircraft."
Jetstream currently operates a fleet of all 19-passenger Jetstream 31s. Houk emphasized that "the Jetstream 31 is an excellent aircraft, is perfectly sized for many markets we serve, and will remain an important part of our fleet."
The pressurized, prop-jet Embraer Brasilia has two seats on one side of a center aisle and one seat on the other side. It has a stand-up cabin, overhead storage bins and onboard lavatory. It features the latest state-of-the-art avionics and navigational equipment, has excellent fuel efficiency and flies at speeds up to 300 miles per hour.
Jetstream International will hire approximately 20 pilots and 25 flight attendants for the Embraer program. These employees will be employed at Jetstream's crew base in Indianapolis.
As announced in late summer, USAir and USAir Express will significantly expand service at Indianapolis International Airport on Jan. 7. USAir jet departures will increase from 49 to 63; USAir Express departures will increase from 60 to 81.
