USAIR BREAKS GROUND ON $23.5 MILLION MAINTENANCE HANGAR
 AT TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
TAMPA, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir, City of Tampa and Hillsborough County Aviation Authority officials broke ground today on the new USAir maintenance hangar to be built near Tampa International Airport.
Participating in the ceremony were John R. Long, senior vice president, customer operations for USAir; Tampa Mayor Sandra W. Freedman; M.P. "Bud" Clark, chairman of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority and other officials.
"The hangar is a major investment of $23.5 million in USAir's operations in Tampa and another indication of the company's commitment to Tampa International," noted Long.
Approximately 115 maintenance employees will be employed at the facility when it is completed in July of 1993.
According to Long, the major purpose of the hangar will be heavy overnight maintenance inspections of the company's fleet of aircraft including Boeing and McDonnell Douglas models.
The hangar bay will include 89,000 square feet of space which could hold one Boeing 767 and two McDonnell MD-80s. Support areas total over 45,000 square feet plus another 10,000 square feet for a ground support equipment shop.
Others participating in the ceremony were representatives of the general contractor, Brasfield and Gorrie and the architectural firm of Rosser Fabrap International.
