USAIR AND UNITED AGREE TO SALE OF PHILADELPHIA-LONDON ROUTE

ARLINGTON, Va., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir has agreed to sell its operating authority between Philadelphia and London's Gatwick Airport to United Airlines for $14.5 million with the condition United obtain governmental approval to transfer the authority to Chicago and operate flights from O'Hare International Airport to London's Heathrow Airport.
USAir previously committed to divesting its operating authorities between Philadelphia, Baltimore and Charlotte, N.C., and London's Gatwick Airport as part of its new marketing alliance with British Airways. Service in these three markets will continue uninterrupted by British Airways.
"This is a very good agreement for both USAir and United Airlines and we will work with United to obtain government approval," said USAir Chairman, President and CEO Seth E. Schofield.
Either party has the right to terminate the agreement if it is not closed by May 14, 1993.
