USAIR AND BOEING AGREE TO REVISED DELIVERY SCHEDULES

ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- USAir and the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group have announced an agreement in principle for a revised schedule of aircraft deliveries that will reduce USAir's capital expense requirement by about $835 million between 1993 and 1996 and better match capacity with projected demand.
USAir will exercise options on 15 Boeing 757-200 aircraft previously scheduled for delivery in 1996-97 and accept them in 1995- 96. At the same time, USAir has taken options on 15 757 delivery positions for 1995 and beyond.
By agreeing to substitute 757s for 737 aircraft, USAir will be relieved of its obligation to purchase 20 of its 60 firm orders for smaller Boeing 737-300/400 aircraft and reschedule delivery of the remaining 40 that it has on order. No 737s will be delivered between 1993-96 while 12 firm 737 aircraft will be delivered annually between 1997-99 and four in the year 2000.
"Under this cooperative program with Boeing we will achieve three primary goals," said USAir Group Chairman, President and CEO Seth E. Schofield. "First, we will keep our capacity growth over the next several years at levels more consistent with our forecasts of actual market demand.
"Second, our requirement to raise capital will be reduced substantially. Third, we will accelerate delivery of 757s, an aircraft that has proven to be exceptionally well suited to our system since being added to the fleet last summer."
