US writer Sidney Sheldon dies.

US novelist Sidney Sheldon has died at the age of 89 as a result of complications arising from pneumonia.

Sheldon is best known for his novels including The Naked Face, Rage of Angels and The Other Side of Midnight.

According to Reuters, Sheldon published 18 novels and sold 300 million copies, with translations published in 71 languages and sold in 180 countries. He was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as "the world's most translated author".

Prior to embarking upon his career in fiction writing Sheldon was a writer for movies, television and Broadway theatre.
