US should lead the way as talks could close Christian-Islam divide.

The US Vice President's official visit to the Republic of Cyprus last May 2014, gave Cypriots a glimpse of hope that the American Government will see things through the perspective of The Rule of Law and help free Cyprus from Turkey's illegal military and political occupation, in order to restore individual human rights for all legal citizens of the island, of any ethnic and/or racial origin, on a fair and equal basis.

Cypriots, of Greek, Turkish or other descent, are not asking anything more in their homeland. We only fight peacefully for our freedom to enjoy individual and collective (as one State) human rights all over our land, without military and political interventions and other illegal obstacles from abroad.

Besides, "We (too) hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" (The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America, July 4, 1776).

All Cypriots dream of living in a united country that will enjoy all the democratic freedoms of the Western and European World. This ancient island is way too small to be partitioned, in any way.

Any de jure partition of the island, whether "hard" or "soft", will a mean return to the medieval ages and the apartheid systems of the past. Furthermore, it will create an economically non viable state, a situation that might lead to even greater instabilities in the area.

On the other hand, if Cyprus de facto or/and de jure, now or later, continues to be controlled by Turkey, not only Cypriot, but also Western and European interests will be in danger.

Conclusively, taking into account the wider unstable environment in the Middle East and the Arab world and the Islamic world in general, I suggest that Cyprus becomes a democratic paradigm of stability and peace between Christianity and Islam. A place where Christians and Muslims will live harmoniously inOne State, the way people live in the United States of America.

Cyprus is on the border line of the "two worlds", if we accept Huntington's recently revived clash of civilizations' theories. Thus, besides the particulars of the Cyprus Question, solving the Cyprus Problem might work also as a domino for stability and peace between Christians and Muslims in general.

Now it is the right time for America to lead an International Alliance to finally solve the Cyprus Problem and free Cyprus from the unacceptable status quo.
