US OSPREYS CALL ON RAF VALLEY.
THIS is the amazing moment revolutionary aircraft arrived at RAF Valley in Anglesey.
Two Ospreys from the United States Marine Corps paid a visit to the North Wales airbase - a sight not often seen in the region.
In a post on their Facebook page, RAF Valley said: "Great to see the United States Marine Corps [USMC] here at Valley, in the form of two Ospreys from VMM-261, a USMC Medium Lift Tiltrotor squadron normally based out of New River, North Carolina.
"Many of us will have served alongside the USMC on operations across the globe, and the 'Devil Dogs' are always a welcome sight in the air or on the ground."
The unusual aircraft is considered to be half helicopter and half aeroplane as it can take off vertically while also flying as a conventional aircraft.
It can carry 24 troops and once in the air, the plane's two main rotors tilt forward and power it like a normal propeller plane.
The aircraft are occasionally seen in the skies of North Wales, with US military personnel known to use them while training in the Mach Loop - an area used for low-flying training.
The arrival of the planes come at a time when RAF Valley is in the spotlight as part of an ITV documentary.
Fighter Pilot: The Real Top Gun is a three-part series which follows a trio of fighter pilot recruits as they attempt to become the best of the best - to be selected to fly the RAF's brand new F35 Lightning jet.
