LGS, which serves the US government community and is a subsidiary of communications solutions provider Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE:ALU), has revealed that the Alcatel-Lucent 5ESS Switch has been certified as interoperable with the Defense Switched Network (DSN) by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) and the Defense Information System Network Security Accreditation Working Group (DSAWG).

LGS said the 5ESS Switch has, as a result, been added to the DoD Approved Products List (APL). It claimed the certification demonstrates the continued commitment of LGS and Alcatel-Lucent to deliver products and services designed to meet the requirements of the US government customer.

According to LGS, the JITC-certified elements for the 5ESS Switch include the full 5ESS Switch configuration; the cost reduced Compact Digital eXchange (CDX); the Very Compact Digital eXchange (VCDX) configurations; the Administrative Services Module (ASM); the EXtended Switch Module (EXM); and the Distinctive Remote Module (DRM). The EXM and DRM are Remote Switch Units (RSU) and feature full functional operation in standalone mode.
