US "seriously concerned" of Houthis sentencing of political prisoners to death in Yemen.

WASHINGTON, July 13 (KUNA) -- The US voiced Saturday its serious concern by the Houthis' "unjust" sentencing of 30 political prisoners to death in Sana'a, Yemen. State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement "the United States is seriously concerned by the Iranian-backed Houthis' July 9 unjust sentencing of 30 political prisoners to death in Sana'a." "Among those sentenced were academics and political figures detained on unfounded, politically motivated charges," the statement added. "Some of those sentenced have also allegedly been physically abused while in detention." It urge "the Iranian-backed Houthis to retract these sentences, treat detainees humanely, and cease arbitrary detentions." (end) si
