The Upjohn Company and its U.K. subsidiary, Upjohn Limited, today issued three actions for libel in the High Court of Justice in England claiming damages and injunctions.
The first action is in respect of allegations made during a BBC-TV Panorama program entitled "The Halcion Nightmare," broadcast on 14 October 1991. The defendants are the British Broadcasting Corporation and the program's reporter, Tom Mangold.
The second action is in relation to allegations published in the Sunday Express on 6 October 1991. The defendants are Express Newspapers Plc, the newspaper's editor, Eve Pollard, and the journalist responsible for the article, Neville Hodgkinson.
The third action is in respect of allegations made by Ian Oswald in an article published in the 20 January 1992 issue of the New York Times. The defendant is Oswald.
Proceedings in the first two actions have been served. Proceedings in the third action will be served shortly on Oswald.
