UPDATE ON SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL

 UPDATE ON SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL
Dana Eisele of Corporate Communications Group Inc., issued the

following update as of 3 p.m. CDT on the status of 30 flatbed rail cars carrying 2,200 tons on non-hazardous municipal solid waste being transported out of the Midwest.
A number of logistical issues remain to be resolved to complete the plan for disposal of the material. In order to dispose of the material, sanitary landfill facilities must be arranged; a container unloading site must be selected; flatbed tractor-trailer rigs must be contracted; and final transfer by truck from the transfer site to the landfill must be completed.
The plan has been complicated by the requirement to handle the material as a larger-than-usual shipment. Transportation and final disposal of solid waste material normally is handled in smaller shipments to match the daily handling capacities of transportation equipment and landfills.
Originally, what is now a single, 30-car shipment was part of several smaller shipments from the originating site. Logistics managers now are arranging disposal of a much larger single shipment than normal.
The transfer of this material, which is being transported in covered cargo containers, has been conducted and will be conducted in full compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations regarding transportation of non-hazardous municipal solid waste.
