UPCOMING MAZDA MID-SIZE LUXURY SEDAN TO BE NAMED 'MILLENIA'
IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda, which last week announced that it was planning to market an all-new mid-size luxury sedan in the United States beginning next year, today announced that the name of the new sedan will be "Millenia." The car is making its worldwide debut this week at the Frankfurt International Auto Show. "The elegant styling of the new luxury sedan is designed to be emotionally appealing, so Mazda decided to give the car a name rather than a numerical designation," said Mazda Motor of America President Kazuo "Sonny" Sonoguchi. "After much study, we chose the name Millenia to represent the long-lasting value and durability that characterizes the new sedan." Millenia is derived from millennium, which means 1,000 years of happiness. When it goes on sale next spring as a 1995 model, the Millenia promises to stand out from the rest of its class with its distinctive design and high level of fit and finish. Two smooth, quiet and powerful V6 engines will be offered in the Millenia. The car will also feature such standard equipment as dual airbags, antilock brakes and an all-new, technically advanced four-wheel independent suspension that combines excellent handling with smooth ride quality. Traction control will be available to enhance control on slippery surfaces. The Millenia will be produced in a factory in Hofu, Japan, built specifically for the manufacture of luxury cars. The Hofu plant, which features a high level of automation, is one of the most advanced automobile assembly facilities in the world. -0- 9/7/93 /CONTACT: Fred Aikins, (U.S.) 800-248-0459, or (Calif.), 800-346-2286/
