``Valley - A Day in the Park'' Educational Resource Fair will give parents, students, teachers and principals a chance to get acquainted with school-related programs offered by more than 30 local arts, cultural and other educational organizations presenting hands-on workshops, activity ideas, teaching materials and music and theater groups. The free event, sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, will take place noon to 5:30 p.m. May 9, Woodley Avenue Park, 6350 Woodley Ave., Van Nuys. Second annual Protect Your Child Day, by the Barristers Children's Rights Committee and the L.A. Department of Recreation and Parks, will feature a series of free practical workshops for both parents and children, ages 4-12, on how to deal with many of the social problems affecting families today. Activities will include traffic safety, conflict resolution workshops, crime prevention, videotaping of children, stranger awareness, food and fun, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11, Balboa Park, 17015 Burbank Blvd., Encino. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has a new brochure on stuttering - word repetitions, hesitant speech and other forms of nonfluency, which one in four of all children will experience - that provides answers to questions frequently asked about this treatable condition. Free Junior Environmental Walk will take place 9:30 to 11 a.m. May 11, Soka University of America, 26800 W. Mulholland Highway, Calabasas.
