UO volleyball team wins Baylor tourney.
Byline: The Register-GuardWACO, Texas - Oregon improved its volleyball record to 6-0 and won the Baylor Invitational by beating Stephen F. Austin and Baylor on Saturday.
The Ducks beat Stephen F. Austin 30-12, 30-22, 30-21 before finishing their 3-0 tournament run with a 33-31, 30-23, 30-23 victory over Baylor.
Heather Meyers was named the tournament MVP after recording 24 kills for the Ducks in their victories. Teammates Gorana Maricic (30 kills) and Sonja Newcombe (22 kills) made the all-tournament team.
Oregon State loses
twice in volleyball
MOSCOW, Idaho - Oregon State's volleyball team lost twice Saturday at the Idaho Classic, falling 31-29, 30-25, 23-30, 23-30, 30-28 to Oklahoma and 21-30, 19-30, 30-24, 30-28, 22-20 to Middle Tennessee State.
Rachel Rourke had 27 kills for the Beavers (3-3) against Middle Tennessee State, and Kristin Murray had 15 against Oklahoma.
NCC knocks off
ranked volleyball foe
ROCKLIN, Calif. - A victory over a ranked opponent highlighted the Northwest Community College volleyball team's day Saturday at the William Jessup Invitational.
After losing 28-30, 30-19, 30-15, 30-25 to Baker University from Kansas, the Beacons (3-2) recorded a 15-30, 30-28, 30-20, 30-17 victory over Menlo College, the eighth-ranked team in the NAIA's California region.
Beavers blank Northridge
in women's soccer
CORVALLIS - Jodie Taylor scored twice as Oregon State's women's soccer team opened its season with a 2-0 victory over Cal State-Northridge on Saturday.
Ashley Wood had two saves to record the shutout.
Cardwell leads Lowell
to prep football win
Caleb Cardwell rushed for 207 yards and two touchdowns and Daniel Casarez rushed for 126 yards and scored twice to lead Lowell to a 54-34 nonleague prep victory over Country Christian on Saturday.
In other games Saturday:
Casey King threw four touchdown passes and ran for a score for McKenzie, but the Eagles squandered a 14-point lead in a 40-34 loss to Joseph.
Jake Rice ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns to lead North Douglas in a 35-12 loss to St. Mary's.
Myrmo, Budke in top 15
in USGA tournaments
Eugene golfers Erik Myrmo and Mary Budke were in the top 15 of their respective USGA events after the first round of qualifying Saturday.
Myrmo shot an even-par 71 in the Senior Amateur Championship in Andover, Kan., and was tied for 12 place, while Budke was tied for 15th place at the Women's Senior Amateur in Sunriver after a 6-over 77.
