UNPRECEDENTED LOAD FACTORS AT LEHIGH VALLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

ALLENTOWN, Pa., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The new Orlando non-stop Boeing 737-200 jet service by AirTran Airways at Lehigh Valley International Airport is getting a strong reception according to airport officials.

Bruce E. Tarletsky, Director of Marketing, Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, reports that during AirTran's first month of service, AirTran boarded passengers with unprecedented load factors for this airport exceeding on average, an 80% load factor. Tarletsky said, "We remain very excited about this new service to our second largest market. The Greater Lehigh Valley has responded to AirTran's convenient service and low fares." AirTran enplaned, according to airport reports, 2,457 passengers, during the month. Tarletsky went on to say, "We believe an aggressive marketing campaign by the Airport Authority and AirTran Airways to our 2.3 million population service area is the reason for this early success."

Surveys of enplaning passengers show that AirTran customers come from as far as 95 miles away. Tarletsky reported that a significant number of these customers are first-time travelers. "These new travelers would normally drive to their destinations or simply not travel at all because of the perceived high cost of air travel."

The Lehigh Valley International Airport is located near Allentown, Pennsylvania. The airport serves 12 counties in Eastern Pennsylvania and Western New Jersey. The combined population of this service area is over 2.3 million people.
