 UNOCAL NEGOTIATING SALE OF PUREGRO SUBSIDIARY
 LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Unocal Corp. (NYSE: UCL)


said today it is negotiating with four companies to purchase various portions of its Sacramento-based PureGro Co. subsidiary.
 Crop Production Services, Inc., based in Tulsa, Okla., has offered to purchase 33 PureGro units in California, Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah, while Wilbur-Ellis Co., headquartered in San Francisco, has offered to purchase stores in Coolidge and Buckeye, Ariz.
 Negotiations with J. R. Simplot Co., based in Pocatello, Idaho, are continuing for the purchase of 13 PureGro retail units in Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado.
 Harbach, Gillan and Nixon Inc., located in Clinton, Ill., has offered to purchase the PureGro "Marco" facility in Clinton. This agreement includes a trucking operation.
 The sales to J.R. Simplot and Harbach, Gillan and Nixon Inc. are expected to close by year end. Sales of the remaining operations to Wilbur-Ellis and Crop Production Services Inc. are projected to close in early 1993.
 The PureGro Co. markets and distributes fertilizers and crop protection materials throughout the western United States.
 In recent months, Unocal has sold its polymers and chemicals distribution businesses, its product terminals network in the Southeast United States and other assets. So far this year, asset sales have generated after-tax proceeds of nearly $300 million.
 The company plans to generate another $700 million in after-tax proceeds over the next two years from the sale of additional assets, including its PureGro subsidiary.
