UNOCAL NAMES GEORGE WALKER TO OVERSEE HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND SAFETY
 LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Unocal Corp. (NYSE: UCL) today said the company's board of directors elected George A. Walker, 45, corporate vice president, Health, Environment and Safety, with direct responsibility for overall policy as it relates to health and safety in the workplace, emergency response and a clean environment.
 Walker succeeds Donald L. Hanley, 59, who has retired after 36 years with the company.
 Walker had been general manager, Health Environment and Safety Programs for the company's Petroleum Products & Chemicals Division prior to the election to his new post. He joined the company in 1968 at the company's San Francisco refinery and held various refinery operations positions. In 1987, he was named general manager for Unocal's Los Angeles Refinery in Wilmington, Calif.
 Born in Indianapolis, Walker holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California at Davis.
 He is a member of the Western States Petroleum Association and the National Petroleum Refiners Association. He served on the board of managers of the San Pedro Peninsula YMCA and is currently on the board of directors for Impact-HI, a statewide association of parents of deaf children.
 Hanley joined Unocal in 1955 following graduation from the University of Washington with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He held various engineering positions at the company's refineries until he was named manager of the Los Angeles Refinery in 1971.
 In 1986 he became vice president for the company's refinery operations. Hanley was elected corporate vice president, Health, Environment and Safety, in 1988, the position he held at his retirement.
 Hanley was chairman of the American Petroleum Institute General Refining Committee from 1985 to 1987. He served on the board of directors for the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Merchants and Manufacturers Association. He is currently chairman of the Marine Exchange of Los Angeles-Long Beach Harbor, Inc., and chairman of the Southern California Water Committee, Inc.
