UNOCAL EXPLORATION CORP. ANNOUNCES NATURAL GAS FIND
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Unocal Exploration Corp.

(NYSE: UXC), today announced another significant natural gas find in the Mobile area, offshore Mississippi. UXC is the operator and 100 percent working interest owner in the discovery.
Located on the OCS Mobile block 904 unit prospect, this new field discovery is about 45 miles southwest of Mobile, Ala., in 60 feet of water.
The UXC Mobile block 904 OCS-G 5749 No. 1 well tested at a maximum rate of 97.6 million cubic feet of gas per day through a 42/64 inch choke. Drilled to a total depth of 22,400 feet, the well penetrated 185 feet of gas pay, and was tested through 146 feet of perforations between 22,130 and 22,290 feet. The pay zone is in Upper Jurassic age Norphlet sandstone, in a high temperature and high-geopressure reservoir environment.
This test is the highest announced Norphlet flow rate measured to date in the Mobile OCS area and one of the best ever for the entire Gulf of Mexico producing area.
 L. Carl Hebert, vice president for the Unocal Corp.'s (NYSE: UCL) Texas/Southeastern Region, said, "This discovery is significant in that it extends the known Norphlet play to the south and west in the Mobile area and is the first production test of the Norphlet in a high geopressured environment. We are pleasantly surprised by the low hydrogen sulfide concentrations obtained during the test."
Hebert added that "UXC is looking at various production and transportation alternatives in order to commercialize this significant discovery."
 Mobile block 904 is part of a 23,040-acre, four-block unit (blocks 904, 905, 948 and 949) in which UXC holds a 100 percent interest.
Immediately to the north, UXC has a 25 percent interest in a 16,576-acre, three-block unit (blocks 860, 861 and 862). Two Norphlet wells have been drilled and cased on those blocks by the operator.
UXC is the largest acreage holder on the Mobile Outer Continental Shelf, with 85,563 net acres on 24 blocks. UXC is operator for 16 of those blocks.
The Mobile block 904 No. 1 discovery test follows other significant Mobile-area UXC interest gas finds announced in December 1991 on the UXC-operated Mobile block 916 (45.65 percent UXC), 37 miles to the east, and the Chevron-operated Mobile block 861 (25 percent UXC), three miles to the northeast.
UXC, a Delaware corporation, holds substantially all of Unocal's oil and gas exploration, development, and production assets in or near the Gulf of Mexico. Unocal Corporation owns 96 percent of UXC.
