UNO EXPECTS TO EXCEED CONSENSUS EARNINGS ESTIMATE FOR FOURTH QUARTER AND FISCAL YEAR

BOSTON, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Uno Restaurant Corporation (NYSE: UNO) today announced that same-store restaurant sales for the September quarter were ahead of the prior year by 4.6 percent and that total revenue increased 35 percent. As a result, the company expects to report earnings for the fourth fiscal quarter and full year that will exceed consensus earnings' estimates of 16 cents and 44 cents, respectively, and that will be at the high end of the range of analysts' expectations. Analysts' estimates presently range from 13 cents to 19 cents for the fourth quarter, and from 40 cents to 46 cents for the fiscal year. The company will release final earnings for the fourth quarter and fiscal year on Nov. 11, 1993.
In making the announcement, Aaron Spencer, chairman and CEO, stated, "We are extremely pleased that the positive trend of restaurant sales comparisons not merely continued in the fourth quarter, but gained momentum. Increased restaurant sales are by far the most important factor influencing the strength of our projected earnings' results. At the same time, our newer business segments performed extremely well. Consumer product sales during the fourth quarter were more than double those of the prior year, resulting primarily from expanded sales of frozen pizzas to American Airlines and increased distribution into supermarkets in the New York metropolitan area, both made possible by greater capacity from a new production facility opened this year. Earlier this month, we also initiated shipments to major customers in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and greater New York and another expansion of our production facility is underway. A test program of take-out units operating within Super Stop & Shop markets has worked well and a recent agreement provides for additional units. We also established a new quick-service unit in conjunction with McDonald's in the food court of the recently constructed International Terminal at O'Hare Airport in Chicago."
