UNIVISION NOW AVAILABLE ON GALAXY 1
MIAMI, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- On Oct. 6 Univision will move from

Satcom FIR, transponder 7, to Galaxy 1, transponder 6. In order to make the transition easier, Univision will be transmitting on both satellites for 14 days following the move, or from Tuesday, Oct. 6, to Monday, Oct. 19. The single feed permanent position will begin at midnight ET on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
With the new move in place, Univision will continue to deliver a superior signal to its broadcast and cable affiliates nationwide. Galaxy 1's location is at 133 degrees West longitude and its transponder 6 frequency is 3820 MHz, with a vertical downlink polarization.
Univision has also secured a transponder on Galaxy 1-R, the replacement to Galaxy 1, and the second of two next-generation satellites owned by Hughes Communications, Inc. (HCI). Galaxy 1-R will be launched into orbit on Aug. 20, at 6:39 p.m. ET from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The new satellite promises to be even superior to the impressive performance of the Galaxy 1, having a transmit frequency range of 3.70 to 4.20 GHz and a receive frequency range of 5.925 to 6.425 GHz.
In addition to Univision, 12 other cable networks are already committed to the new Galaxy 1-R satellite when it becomes available in 1994, including Home Box Office (HBO), Cinemax (East), Comedy Central (West), ESPN, USA Network (West), The Disney Channel (West), and Turner Network Television (TNT).
These moves to more advanced satellite technologies further demonstrate Univision's commitment to the broadcast and cable industries. Now with Galaxy 1 and later with the Galaxy 1-R, Univision will continue to provide a superior signal into the 21st century with next-generation satellite equipment.
With the launching of the new satellite, Univision will enhance its ability to reach its audience: superior reception means increased satisfaction for the millions of viewers that enjoy Univision daily.
Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language television network reaches 90 percent of U.S. Hispanic households through satellite- interconnected broadcast and cable affiliates nationwide.
