UNIVISION AND BILLBOARD HONOR COMPOSER ARMANDO MANZANERO WITH THE 1993 'PREMIO LO NUESTRO' LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

MIAMI, April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- One of the most celebrated and revered Latin composers of all time, Armando Manzanero, will be honored with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award at Hispanic America's preeminent music awards ceremony, Premio Lo Nuestro a la Musica Latina. Presented by both Univision and Billboard magazine, Premio Lo Nuestro will air live from the James L. Knight Convention Center in Miami on Thursday, May 20, at 8 p.m. EST (check local listings).
A beloved lyricist, Armando Manzanero has authored more than 800 tunes. Classics such as "Me Vuelves Loca," "Adoro," "Esta Tardi? Llover," "Contigo Aprendi," and "Somos Novios," have taken their place in history as some of the best-loved melodies of all time. Most recently, two of his songs, "No Se Tu" and "Te Extrano," became smash hits on Luis Miguel's blockbuster album "Romance."
The number of famous artists seduced by Armando Manzanero's eloquent style of composition is not restricted to Spanish-language singers, however. Such legends as Perry Como, Frank Sinatra and British singer Shirley Bassey, all recorded Manzanero's "Somos Novios" with the title "It's Impossible."
Premio Lo Nuestro was first created in 1989 as a joint venture between Univision and Billboard magazine to recognize excellence in Latin music. It is considered the Latin equivalent of the Grammy awards of the English-language music industry.
Univision, the nation's leading Spanish-language television network, reaches 91 percent of U.S. Hispanic households through satellite- interconnected broadcast and cable affiliates nationwide.
Billboard is one of 18 magazines published by BPI Communications. BPI Communications is a worldwide media company producing specialized publications in entertainment, advertising, art and design, and offering marketing and research services and electronically delivered data to creative people in creative businesses.
