UNIVERSAL STUDIOS HOLLYWOOD'S 'BACKDRAFT' ATTRACTION SPARKS SECOND HIGHEST ATTENDANCE FIGURE IN FAMED FACILITY'S 29-YEAR HISTORY

World's No. 1 Motion Picture Attraction
 Also Welcomes 75 Millionth Guest
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Universal Studios Hollywood attained its second highest attendance mark in history for 1992 -- 4.8 million guests -- despite a sluggish economy and the impact of last spring's civil unrest on the travel industry.
Universal's attendance figures can be largely attributed to the dramatic increase in international visitation to the studio attraction, which rose 19.5 percent in 1992. Universal reports its highest number of international visitors from Canada, Germany, Japan, England and Mexico. In addition, 1992 marked the introduction of Universal's spectacular "Backdraft" attraction, a re-creation of the Ron Howard film, which also helped the studio to realize the impressive attendance figures.
The studio attraction also made history in December 1992 when the 75 millionth visitor officially passed through its gate. Universal Studios Hollywood realized its highest annual attendance in 1989, hosting 5.1 million visitors.
Universal's expansion will continue this year, with the debut of the $70 million "Back to the Future ... The Ride" this summer. "Back to the Future ... The Ride" is the most technically advanced ride in the world.
Universal Studios Hollywood is the original behind-the-scenes look at the film and television industry and has become the master of presenting movies three-dimensionally on the famed Universal lot where some of history's greatest motion pictures and television shows were produced and continue to be filmed.
